1/3 Inti. The sun is called Inti in both Aymara and Quechua, the languages of half my family. Inti is usually called Tata Inti, which means Father Sun. In this image, I drew inspiration from the cosmic serpent Amaru, who can travel between the earthly and spiritual realms. The sun is a life giver —in this image represented by the corn that grows and feeds the community.

2/3 Phaxsi. The moon is called Phaxsi in Aymara. Phaxsi is watched by a cholita mountain. Her earring is in the shape of a chakana, a symbol that represents multiple philosophies within the Andina cosmovision.

holly flores, artist of the creations on this site.

Holly comes from a family of cultivators and dreamers whose roots extend from the Indigenous Aymara, Quechua, and Sami people as well as ancestors from poland and spain. Decolonization and futurism matter to her, surfacing in her art through cosmovionistic imagery, interpretations of cultural tomes, and Andina landscapes drawn by her Grandpa Hugo Flores.
She received her Masters in Development Practice from UC Berkeley in 2019 and focuses on community building. She works and resides in Oakland, California.
